summer packing strategies | shoe edition

Hey guys! How was the weekend? We just landed back in Houston and I’m going 1,000 miles a minute trying to catch up from last week and prepare for the holiday weekend festivities. Did you see my Memorial Day party post?! I can’t wait to cook up some fun new recipes with friends this weekend. I think I’ll make the healthy farro salad to counter balance the deliciously naughty blueberry beignets for dessert.

As I unpack to repack for this weekend, I stare at my open suitcase and ponder last trip’s packing malfunctions. We’ve got lots of summer travel plans on the docket, so I’ve gotta be as smart and effecient as I can about packing. My go-to short will be this Trina Turk pair because they’re colorful but still neutral and go with a lot. And the stripe print hides suitcase induced wrinkles too. I love them with a silk blouse but they can also be dressed down with a casual tee or tank top.

As for shoes, I ALWAYS overpack in the shoe department. Just thinking about all of the extra space I’d have if I could just narrow down my shoe selections lowers my growing anxiety over having to sit on the suitcase to get it closed. You can image the annoyance on Bret’s face when it takes me 10 extra minutes to get out the door due to overstuff suitcase problems. For those of you who already pack light when it comes to shoes, I commend you. You also probably have an iPhone with no unread texts and 5 emails in your gmail inbox. Someday…..Anyway, my goal for summer packing is to go from the average 7 lot to closer to 3 pair per trip. What does this mean? Well tennis shoes are a must, so now I’m down to two spots left. A neutral sandal and a slide sandal should suffice, right? I found these blush espadrilles at Nordstrom and am thinking this pair will be lucky #3. Wait just a minute, I forgot that I get to WEAR one pair on the plane, so tennis shoes for that, and I’ll toss these go-with-everything white gems into the suitcase for good measure.
