Spring wardrobe staples with J. McLaughlin

Every year around this time I do a routine seasonal closet overhaul. I donate things that have seen better days and sell pieces that haven’t left the hanger for 9+ months I sell on Tradesy. My rule of thumb when it comes to clothes-purging is if you haven’t worn something in a few seasons it’s probably not going to get any action in the future. Post purge I’m focusing on adding some key closet staples. Pieces that will take me from winter to spring and also endure the seasons and trends. Today I’ve found three go-with-everything wardrobe must-haves; a cashmere cape, a classic short and a neutral clutch.
I found these perfect additions to my spring wardrobe at J. McLaughlin. Who doesn’t love cashmere? This cape is super lightweight; a piece I’ll throw into my suitcase every time we travel this spring/summer. I layered my neutral cape with a colorful printed button down for a fun pop of color on the collar. A good classic short is hard to find. Shorts keep getting shorter and shorter and since hitting 30 I feel like I’m back in grade school with the fingertip rule. Do y’all remember this rule? We had to rest our hands at our sides and our shorts and skirts had to sit past the fingertips. Well this rule is back at least in my book. I’m pretty timid about going short, short anymore. And this perfect pair by J. McLaughlin is a great length. I also love the feminine scalloped detail that takes these shorts from looking grandma {not you, Grandma B, you don’t look a day over 60!} to looking chic 30 something. These shorts will be on major repeat this spring/summer. Also on repeat, this wicker clutch with fun metallic accents. To reference packing for vacay again, this bag is a no brainer because it will surely go with everything in my suitcase.
