L. Avenue is ONE!

My third child aka this blog turned 1 while I was in New York for fashion week. It’s pretty perfect to get to celebrate L. Avenue’s first year with none other than the blog’s better half, the uber-talented Traci Ling. I’m not sure if I told you guys this already, but on this special birthday (like I said it was technically last month, but I’m behind and it’s ok to be belated because I’m pretty sure nobody else is keeping track but me) it feels only right to tell a little story or two. This Traci Ling literally fell into my lap one hotter than hot Houston summer day while I’m asking the guy behind me in the Starbucks line to take a photo of my outfit. Ok, I never sank that low. Well maybe on the streets of NYC. Hey, I’ll never see those people again, right?! I was that desperate. Every time I would make an effort to put on something cute and a little lip gloss (most often before a date night), I’d ask the hubs to “quickly” snap a few photos “for the blog.” This typically didn’t end well for either of us. Me, feeling crushed because he only wanted to take 3 shots of my handbag, him feeling annoyed that I kept asking him to make sure to not cut off my shoes. It’s funny because so many blogger friends share this “significant other was my first photographer” story. Even worse, my sweet friends often fell victim (and still do on occasion) of the “it’s for the blog” photo request. Oh.my.gosh I’m annoying. And then this super cool chick who I’d met a few times in a past life reached out via Facebook about wanting to take photos of something besides her kids and other peoples’ kids. And BAM, the creation of the team that is L. Avenue.
It’s been an incredible first year. I got to attend New York Fashion week twice, I’ve collaborated with some really rad brands and most importantly I’ve met so many amazing, inspiring women who share similar passions as me. I’ve been inspired by bloggers who are new like me and some seasoned vets who have turned their blogs into very successful businesses. Ok, I’ll stop nerding out over here. Overall, I’m just very happy to have turned my hobby into a career that I love. A job that doesn’t feel like work. And when I’m working I’m so enthralled that I don’t come up for air, food, drink and sometimes even a bathroom break. Ha!
So I’ll end this novel of a blog post with the most important thing I wanted to accomplish when I started typing this birthday card out. I want to thank my amazing readers for coming along with me on this little fashion + other stuff journey. Your comments in person and online have meant the world to me. I swear this time last year I was pretty convinced that my only subscribers were in my bloodline. It’s pretty humbling starting at square one. So thank you for letting me know you’re reading along from time to time and encouraging me to keep on keeping on. Smooches!
