Earlier this summer, I asked the girls what should be on our summertime agenda and Leighton’s first response was an ice cream party! She’s clearly playing to my pregnancy weaknesses. Smart cookie, that girl. Not long after our conversation, I found a ton of party decor/color inspiration on a Target trip and from that point my wheels were turning quickly. I told my good friends at A Fare Extraordinaire about my ideas and they were excited to jump on board to come up with a menu that every kid {and this pregnant lady} would cheer for! As if this party couldn’t get any sweeter, Cloud 10 Creamery topped it off with ice cream sundaes {side note–the Moms were just as excited as the kiddos because the ice cream from Cloud 10 is divine!}.
I mentioned my ideas to my friend Esther and she wanted in on the ice cream party action too. A mom of two precious girls who also runs a children’s clothing line with a cult following called Cuteheads, Ester was the perfect person to collaborate with. Based on my color scheme ideas, Ester went to work creating one-of-a-kind custom dresses and bow ties for all of our party guests to wear to the party. Bold ice cream sprinkle colors with special little seersucker and pom pom details. If you’re interested in ordering any of the dresses you see in this post, email Cuteheads for your custom design here.
How to throw an ice cream party!!!
Start with a color scheme. My idea for the color scheme was a no brainer. Sprinkle colors! I wanted a bold, bright colored party with all of the usual sprinkle suspects.
Stick with a cohesive decor theme. For our summer ice cream party, nothing cuter than bright colors and florals galore. I kept the decor simple with neutral pink and gold shimmer tablecloths from AFE and simple flower arrangements. I bought the flowers at the farmer’s market, in multiple local Texas wild flower bouquet that I then separated into a few larger arrangements and the rest solo flowers in individual vases.
Create a kid-friendly, adult approved menu. AFE knocked it out of the park with the menu. My girls had never had fried chicken and waffles and now request it all the time. And how cute is the mini-version?! The perfect size for our tiny tots. Sliders are a no brainer and a healthy option always appreciated with hummus and veggies that’s presented in a way that’s fun enough to fool the kiddos too try! And an ice cream sundae bar from Cloud 10 is the perfect interactive dessert for a group of toddlers. No sprinkle was left uneaten.
Accessorize! My favorite party accessory is the gorgeous bar cart found at World Market. Add in some greenery and you’ve got a gorgeous bar cart full of delicious fresh lemonade for the mamas and kiddos to enjoy.
Don’t forget the photo opp back drop. No matter how simple or elaborate the occasion I always plan for a festive party backdrop for photos. Meredith, with Cake & Confetti went above and beyond to create one of the brightest, happiest backdrops I’ve ever used for an event.
